I've chatted to the developer behind this feature. He said "We do use 'similar posts based on image' as part of the mix of underlying sources for the 'more like this'."
He also mentioned, "Currently there is no way to opt-out some uploaded images/posts from being fed into this algorithm, unless the post is private. Posts that are deleted would be excluded by filters."
